Democrats vow to block pay raise for Congress.

The Republicans once again rejected increasing the minimum wage, arguing that the raise for low-income workers would hurt small businesses. After nine years of unsuccessful attempts, the Democrats vow to vote against any congressional raises.

Increasing minimum wage will not hurt small businesses but not increasing minimum wage will hurt the low-income workers themselves. With the cost of living increasing and gas prices, the minimum wage is un-livable. The Republicans are only thinking of their sponsors from the big corporations that pay their employees minimum wage or a little more but still less then the proposed amount by Democrats. This should be a step all Democrats should be taking, helping increase the minimum wage to a livable wage.

  • I am assuming that, "Increasing minimum wage will not hurt small businesses but hurt the low-income workers themselves." is a typo and that you mean "increasing the minimum age will not hurt small-buisnessmen but will in fact help low-income workers." or something to that affect.

  • Increasing the minium wage will greatly help the work force to bring in a larger income. Since the majority of the small businesses serve the low to moderate income workers they will see an increase in sales because of the larger income. Since the Republicans reason for denying an increase was "it will hurt the small businesses" this is why I stated businesses instead of businessman.

  • My last comment was meaning to bring to your attention a (what I am assuming is) a typo. specifically "...but hurt the low-income workers themselves" The way you phrased it makes it sounds like increasing the minimum wage will help the business men while hurting the low income worker. Otherwise I fully agree with you. Increasing the minimum wage will increase the spending power of the working poor in this country but it is a stop gap measure. There is some truth, however, to what the Republicans say about how this would affect inflation. Not only will that but that further encourage the business community to exploit immigrant workers in this country. So yes we need to increase the minimum wage in this country but we also have to deal with the consequences of doing so.
