Bush keeping Congress out of the loop on National Security "Projects"

In a story published by the RAW STORY, Peter Hoekstra, Republican House Intelligence Committee chairman, sent a letter in May to President Bush warning him of not including Congress in his "special projects" and his may lose support from some party members on national security. Rep, Hoesktra stated, "I have learned of some alleged intelligence community activities about which our committee has not been briefed. If these allegations are true, they may represent a breach of responsibilty by the administration, a violation of the law, and, just as importantly, a direct affront to me and the members of this committee who have so ardently supported efforts to collect information on our enemies." This story was published in the New York Times on Sunday and Hoesktra confirmed it on Fox.

  • I wish the administration could share state secrets with the full congress, but we all know that if that happened, it would be leaked to the preess within minutes. If the NY Times (and other members of the media) were more responsible in terms of what they print, we wouldn't have to worry about such leaks. In general, it's o.k. if congressmen know our secrets, but when that information is shared with the world, including Al-Qaedo, we have a national security problem. Personally, I'm not willing to risk that just to appease the far left on openness with regard to state secrets
